Point of use Water Filtration System
Grand-Bois has no indoor plumbing, no municipal water supply, no wells, and no electricity
to pump water. Families collect water in buckets from streams, lakes, springs or
cisterns. This water is often contaminated and water born disease is common. ServeHAITI
is currently sponsoring a point-of-use water filtration program under the direction of Gift
of Water. Gift of Water provides bucket-based water filtration systems and trains
technicians who monitor water quality and proper operation of the units.
Over 1000 families are currently participating in the program. To date, over $26,000
has been utilized to provide over 1,400 units to households in the region. We are researching
the possibility of using a one bucket system due to the fact that Gift of Water will
be disbanding at the end of 2009.
