Incinerator and Outdoor Kitchen
With the expansion of the medical facility complete, ServeHAITI’s attention turned
to addressing the remaining facilities' needs.
- An incinerator to handle the disposal of trash and medical waste.
- An outdoor kitchen and dining area for the staff will be built adjacent to the Health Center.
The incinerator will be located on the eastern border of the property away from the
main building. Plans call for fire brick construction with a tall chimney.
The kitchen, poured over a concrete floor, will be constructed of block and
corrugated metal as designed by ServeHAITI volunteer Bob Balke, the clinic’s
architect. As planned, the kitchen will provide the staff with ventilated cooking
and food preparation areas, electricity and running water. Construction will be performed
by ServeHAITI volunteers while also providing work for local Haitian workers.
Both the incinerator and kitchen should be operational by the end of 2009.
