Incinerator and Outdoor Kitchen
With the expansion of the Health Center complete, ServeHAITI’s attention turned to addressing the remaining facilities' needs: 1) an incinerator to handle the safe disposal of trash and medical waste, and 2) an outdoor kitchen and dining area for the staff of the Health Center.
In Summer 2011, a firebrick incinerator was constructed on the east end of the Health Center property for combustion and disposal of both routine and medical trash and waste. Construction, with the assistance of five delegates and three Haitian workers, took five full days as the incinerator structure is an approximate 6 feet cube with a metal stack and two iron grates.
After nearly a year of work, a free standing kitchen was completed in the Spring of 2011 for use by the support staff of the Health Center. It is now complete with running water, electricity, cooking ventilation and outdoor patio. The inside is outfitted with several work stations and a new cooking grill.
