Position Summary

ServeHAITI, Inc. is seeking a dynamic Executive Director with nonprofit experience in the areas of fundraising and program management.  Key responsibilities include: 1) acting as an organization liaison to ServeHAITI’s Board of Directors; 2) management of ServeHAITI staff, volunteers and resources; 3) program/project development, implementation and evaluation; 4) public relations and communication, and 5) fiscal management.


ServeHAITI is a US-based nonprofit, non-governmental organization (NGO) providing medical, water, educational, and economic development services in Grand-Bois, HAITI. Grand-Bois is located in the Département de l’Ouest, the center of which is about 40 miles (77 kilometers) east of Port-au-Prince. Since 2001, motivated by core values of respect, collaboration, and sustainability, ServeHAITI has worked in solidarity with the people of Grand-Bois in addressing the dominant issues of healthcare, clean water, education, and economic development.

Position Function

The Executive Director will serve to implement the vision set forth by the ServeHAITI Board of Directors.  As the most senior staff member of the organization, s/he will oversee day-to-day operations of the organization and be responsible for the oversight and management of volunteers and staff at the medical facility constructed and operated by ServeHAITI in Grand-Bois, the St. Vincent de Paul Health Center.  The Executive Director will be responsible for development of the organization, volunteer recruitment, and program/project planning, implementation, evaluation and budgets. In collaboration with ServeHAITI Treasurer, bookkeeper and other relevant personnel, s/he will ensure the timely and accurate management of all ServeHAITI financial affairs.  S/he will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with funder requirements, as well as ensuring the organization’s continued compliance with US and Haitian laws.  The Executive Director will be supervised by the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and will provide monthly reports on program activities to the Executive Committee, or as requested by the Board of Directors.

Ideally, the Executive Director will be based in Atlanta, GA.  S/he will be expected to travel to Grand-Bois, Haiti at least three times per year.

Essential Responsibilities

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT (approximately 50% of time)

  • Supervise and manage all ServeHAITI staff, both in the US and Haiti based, including hiring and salary setting (within operational budget and with Board approval)
  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of administrative and financial management of programmatic teams led by current volunteers
  • Create or use effective systems to track progress and outcomes of programs, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Board of Directors, funders, and other stakeholders
  • Assist with succession planning by supporting the development of a handbook for each committee and subcommittee of the organization
  • Strengthen community relations in Grand-Bois (2- 3 trips per year) and in the US

 DEVELOPMENT & MARKETING (approximately 30% of time)

  • Work with Development Committee of the Board of Directors and Development Consultant to develop and keep track of a ServeHAITI Resource Development Plan.
  • Facilitate the increase of revenues by supporting annual fundraising activities in Atlanta, Iowa and New York
  • Build partnerships for further expansion of ServeHAITI activities in alignment with the organization’s mission and vision
  • Strategically investigate, identify and develop funding opportunities for ServeHAITI
  • Lead in the development of new grant proposals for existing and new initiatives of ServeHAITI
  • Supervise and coordinate all ServeHAITI public communications and social media activities in collaboration with the ServeHAITI Development Consultant

 VOLUNTEER AND BOARD ADMINISTRATION (approximately 20% of time)

  • Lead the coordination and budgeting of volunteer trips to Grand-Bois in collaboration with the Trips Logistics Volunteer
  • Manage volunteer program: recruitment, meetings and supervision
  • Liaise with Executive Committee and Board to organize board meetings and maintain communications among Board members
  • Provide leadership and support to volunteer subcommittees to meet strategic program goals


The Executive Director should demonstrate a thorough understanding of ServeHAITI’s core values and vigorously promote the mission and programmatic approach of the organization. All candidates should have proven leadership and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:

  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders from varying cultures
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors and the ability to cultivate existing Board Member relationships
  • Strong commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
  • Passion, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
  • International experience in a developing country is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and lead meetings via video and teleconferences
  • Advanced degree, ideally a Master’s degree in public health, development practice, business management or international affairs, with a minimum of five years management experience
  • Track record of effectively leading an organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth

Language requirement: English and French required; Haitian Creole preferred.
