Executive Committee and Staff

  Executive Director
Joanne McGriff, MD, MPH

Dr. McGriff is originally from Long Island, New York and completed her undergraduate work at Princeton University. She earned her Masters in Public Health and Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Her experience in non-profit management began while a Research Fellow in the U.R. Department of Psychiatry (2003-2007). It was there that she first applied her public health skills to develop and expand the emergency service program and community mental health services of a local non-profit in the city of Rochester.

A descendent of Haitian parents, Dr. McGriff is fluent in Haitian Creole and has done international medical development work in multiple areas of Haiti. She became involved with ServeHAITI in 2008 as Executive Director, providing leadership and guidance for the Saint Vincent DePaul Health Center and the ServeHAITI organizational committees. She is responsible for overseeing the USAID-PEPFAR grant in HIV prevention as well as the medical staff at the Health Center in Grand-Bois. Dr. McGriff continues to collaborate with colleagues at the University of Rochester and Emory University on various medical research & writing projects.

  Chairperson
Michael Grady, D.O.
Michael Grady completed his undergraduate work at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. He earned his doctorate degree from the University of England, College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists. While engaged in clinical practice of Obstetrics and gynecology for more than 20 years, Michael also served as chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chief of Staff, and Chairman of the Board for Rockdale Medical Center in Conyers, Georgia. He was also Chairman of the maternal and infant care committee at Newton Medical Center in Covington, Georgia. He became involved with ServeHAITI in 2006 when he first traveled to Grand-Bois as part of a medical delegation. In addition to providing Obstetrics and Gynecological education while in Grand-Bois, Michael assists with general construction and furniture making projects. His goal is to improve prenatal care in the region.

 
  Treasurer
Peter J. Anderson, Esq.
Peter Anderson is a senior partner in the law firm of Sutherland in Atlanta, Georgia. He represents major brokerage firms, broker-dealers, brokers, insurance companies, attorneys and accountants in many forums throughout the country. He also writes, speaks and lectures regularly on securities compliance, regulatory and enforcement issues, and conducts regular in-house seminars for clients and practitioners on these subjects. Peter has served as past Chairman and President of the Childhood Autism Foundation in Georgia, and has helped to develop the Autism Resource Center at Emory University. Peter also serves on the Alumni Board of his alma mater, Dickinson College. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of the Paideia School in Atlanta. Peter was instrumental in securing ServeHAITI’s status as a non-profit corporation. In addition to serving on the Board and as Treasurer of ServeHAITI, he travels to Grand-Bois several times each year and works on general construction projects and volunteers in the Health Center.

 
  Assistant Treasurer
Wendy A. Strassner, Esq.
President, Strassner Search Consultants, LLC
Wendy Strassner earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Virginia and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia. After practicing commercial real estate law with Long Aldridge & Norman in Atlanta, Georgia for five years, Wendy pursued a career in legal recruiting and established Strassner Search Consultants in 1999. Owning her own business afforded Wendy the opportunity to travel to Grand-Bois on several occasions and the flexibility to assume a leadership position with ServeHAITI as it grew out of a small but burgeoning ministry of Sacred Heart Church. She played a role in negotiating the agreement with Dr. Leopold Bourgouin to provide healthcare to the people of Grand-Bois. As Chairperson of the Sacred Heart Haiti Ministry from 2003 until 2005, and as President of ServeHAITI from 2005 until 2006, Wendy was involved in several other initiatives, including negotiating the agreement for, and working with the local contractor on, Phase I of the construction of the Health Center.

In the spring of 2009, Wendy began serving as Assistant Treasurer of ServeHAITI, maintaining the organization's books and assisting the Treasurer and Executive Director in the annual audit process.

 
  Secretary
Charmaine A. Lewis, MD, MPH
Charmaine Lewis earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and French from Duke University and received her medical training at Baylor College of Medicine and Emory University School of Medicine, where she completed her residency. She has published articles and several peer-reviewed journals and has an interest in global health. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and now works full-time as a hospitalist in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Charmaine began as a volunteer medical provider with ServeHAITI in November 2004 and went on her first visit to Haiti in January 2005. She now provides direct patient care on medical trips to Grand-Bois and assists in developing population-based programming in the region. In 2008 she completed a Masters of Public-Health with a concentration in Global Communicable Disease from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Charmaine is co-author of the PEPFAR-NPI cooperative agreement and serves as senior medical consultant to the project.
